Page Contents and Divisions

The Page Contents and division assets
When you add certain assets in Squiz Matrix, a Page Content and a Content DIV are created by default, as shown for the Home page in figure to the right. These assets are known as dependent assets.
A Page Contents asset and its parent asset (a Standard Page, for example) are dependent on each other. The Page Contents cannot exist without its parent asset and it cannot be moved, cloned or linked to another asset.
Bookmarks to the headings on this page:
In Squiz Matrix, the main attributes of the page are defined at the parent level, the structure of the page content is defined at the Page Content level, and the actual content of a page is created within the Content DIVS. These levels are shown in the figure below.

The Page Contents of an asset
The structure of the asset is defined under the Page Contents by adding divisions. The content of the asset will be added into these divisions. By default, a division is created when the Page Contents asset is created; these divisions can be viewed and edited on the Edit Contents screen of the asset, as shown in the figure below.

A division on the Edit Contents screen
Divisions are the most common way to enter content, allowing you to use the WYSIWYG Editor to enter free format text. In contrast to the Page Content asset, divisions are independent assets and can be re-used across different assets by linking them under the Page Contents asset. You can also change the Status of a division and apply Permissions and Workflow separately from any of the Page Contents on which it is linked.
When you Acquire the Lock for the parent asset, it will automatically Acquire the Lock on the Page Contents and the divisions. As a division can be linked to multiple parent assets, you may not be able to Acquire the Lock on a division if someone else already has it.
In addition, the Status of a linked division will not change if it is lower than that of its other parent asset. For example, say Div123 is linked under the Home and About Us pages, both Live. If you change the Status of the About Us page to Under Construction, the Status of Div123 will not change and it will remain Live.
You can edit the content of a single division by selecting Edit Contents on the division asset in the Asset Map.

The Insert DIV pop-up
Adding a New Division to a Page
You can add new divisions to a page on the Edit Contents screen wherever the
icon appears. For example, in the figure above, the
icon appears above and below the default division. This allows you to add a division either before or after the current division.
To add a new division, select Div from the Create New drop down list and click on the
icon.
The pop-up shown in the figure to the right will be displayed.
The fields available are as follows:
- Name: enter the name of the new division. If this field is left blank, Squiz Matrix will automatically assign a name to the new division.
-
Presentation: select either Block-level, Inline or Raw HTML for the presentation of the division.
-
Block-level: this is the default and most commonly used setting. It adds the HTML <div> tag around the content in the HTML source code that is created, which instructs your browser to include a new line before and after your content.
-
Inline: this adds the HTML <span> tag around the content in the HTML source code that is created. This tag instructs the browser to display the content as a continuation of the previous division i.e. without a new line either before or after.
-
Raw HTML: displays the content without adding either the HTML <div> tag or the HTML <span> tag.
-
Block-level: this is the default and most commonly used setting. It adds the HTML <div> tag around the content in the HTML source code that is created, which instructs your browser to include a new line before and after your content.
-
Class: enter the class that is defined in the style sheet into this text box to set the style of the text in this division.
-
Content Type: select which type of content division you would like to create, with the default type being the WYSIWYG Editor. The content types that are available include the following:
- WYSIWYG Editor: this content type allows you to use the WYSIWYG Editor to enter content.
- Code: this content type allows you to enter and format code as content in your page. An example is given in the figure below.
-
Image: this content type allows you create a division that only contains an image. A System Administrator can configure the system so that the settings for images have a default value, and decide whether or not the settings are editable. This content type therefore allows the System Administrator to have control of the appearance of images.
- Nest Content: this content type allows you to nest content from another page into this division.
-
Raw HTML: this content type allows you to enter raw HTML into this division. Raw HTML content is not validated by HTML Tidy, and you can use this content type if you want to enter non-standard HTML, XML or scripting code such as JavaScript.
A Site structure
- Structure Tree: this content type allows you to create content that shows a structure tree or hierarchy. An example is given in the figure to the right, showing a sample Site structure.

Example of code being used as content
For more information about each of the content types, refer to the Content Types manual.
