Asset Creation Wizard

The Asset Creation Wizard allows you to create new assets for your Site. The following assets can be created:

  • Pages:
    • The Page icon  Page
    • The News icon  News Item
  • Events:
    • The Calendar Event Icon  Single Calendar Event
    • The Calendar Event Icon  Recurring Calendar Event
  • Files:
    • The Image icon  Image
    • The PDF icon  PDF
    • The Word Doc icon  Word Doc
    • The Excel Doc icon  Excel Doc
    • The Powerpoint Doc icon  Powerpoint Doc
    • The MP3 Icon  MP3
    • The Movie icon  FLV Movie
    • The Movie icon   Generic Movie
    • The File icon   Generic File
  • Other:
    • The Folder icon   Folder
    • The Redirect Page Icon   Redirect Page

To open the Asset Creation Wizard, click on the Create New Asset button, located to the left of the mode switcher in the tool bar, as shown in the figure to the right.

There are two main sections to the Asset Creation Wizard - the Categories section, on the left, and the Wizards section, on the right. The Categories section lists the categories of different asset types that can be created. The Wizard section displays the different asset types that can be created in the selected category.

When you first open the Asset Creation Wizard, you will be viewing the Pages category, as shown in the figure above. This category allows you to create Page type assets in your Site. You can also create Event and File type assets, as well as miscellaneous asset types, listed under the Other category. To create assets from each category, select the category in the Asset Creation Wizard. The assets displayed in the Wizard section will change, as shown in the figure below.

The Create Screen

The Create Wizard screen allows you to input the asset information for the asset to be created. This includes giving the asset a name and a location in your Site to be created. An example of the Create Wizard screen is shown in the figure below.

Required fields on this screen will be marked with a The Required icon icon. Once you have completed all the required fields for the asset, clicking the Create button (in the lower right corner of the Asset Creation Wizard) will create the new asset in your system.

Tip: Click the Back button (located in the lower left corner of the Asset Creation Wizard) to return to the category select screen. This will allow you to select a different asset type to create.

The fields on this screen will vary depending on the asset type of the asset being created. The main asset details screens are:

  • Page Details: the fields for the Page, News Item, Folder and Redirect Page assets.
  • File Details: the fields for the PDFWord DocExcel DocPowerpoint DocMP3FLV MovieGeneric Movie and Generic File assets.
  • Calendar Event Details: the fields for the Single Calendar Event and Recurring Calendar Event.
  • Image Details: the fields for the Image asset.

The fields available on these screens are described below.

Page Details

The fields available are as follows:

  • Details:
    • Enter a name: the value that is entered into this field is used as the name of the asset.
    • Show in Menu?: this field allows you to select whether or not to show the page in the navigation menu of the site. If it is enabled, the link will appear (a Type 1 asset). If not, the link will not appear (Type 2 asset). For more information, refer to the Linking Screen chapter in the Asset Screens manual.
  • Create Locations
    • Select the locations to create this asset under: this field allows you to select where to create the asset in your Site. You can specify to select an asset location(s) from the Asset Finder and/or choose to specify the currently viewed asset as an asset location.
       
      To select an asset location, click the Select New Location button; the Asset Finder will appear where you can select an asset. To select the current asset as an asset location, click the Select Current Asset button; the current asset will be added to the list of asset locations. If you select more than one asset location, the newly created asset will be linked into each location.
       
      To remove an asset from the list of asset locations, click the remove asset icon. For more information on the Asset Finder, refer to the Asset Finder chapter in this manual.
File Details

The File Details fields available on the Create screen are shown in the figure below.

The fields available are as follows:

  • Details
    • Upload File: this field allows you to select the file to upload to for the File type asset. To select a file, click the browse button. The file upload pop-up will appear where you can select which file to upload.
    • Enter a name: the value that is entered into this field is used as the title of the asset.
    • Show in Menu?: this field allows you to select whether or not to show the file in the navigation menu of the site. If it is enabled, the link will appear (a Type 1 asset). If not, the link will not appear (Type 2 asset). For more information, refer to the Linking Screen chapter in the Asset Screens manual.
  • Create Locations
    • Select the locations to create this asset under: this field allows you to select where to create the asset in your Site. You can specify to select an asset location(s) from the Asset Finder and/or choose to specify the currently viewed asset as an asset location.

Calendar Event Details

The Calendar Event Details fields available on the Create screen are shown in the figure below.

The fields available are as follows:

  • Details
    • Enter a name for the calendar event: the value that is entered into this field is used as the name of the asset.
    • Start Date: this field allows you to enter the start date and time of the event.
    • End Date: this field allows you to enter the end date and time of the event.
    • Frequency: this field allows you to select whether the event will be run on a Daily, Weekly or Monthly basis. This field is only available for Recurring Calendar Events.
    • Show in Menu: this  field allows you to select whether or not to show the file in the  navigation menu of the site. If it is enabled, the link will appear (a Type 1 asset). If not, the link will not appear (Type 2 asset). For more information, refer to the Linking Screen chapter in the Asset Screens manual.
  • Create Locations
    • Select the locations to create this asset under: this field allows you to select where to create the asset in your Site. You can specify to select an asset location(s) from the Asset Finder and/or choose to specify the currently viewed asset as an asset location.

Image Details

The Image Details fields available on the Create screen are shown in the figure below.

The fields available are as follows:

  • Image Information
    • Upload Image: this field allows you to select the file to upload to the Image asset. To select a file, click the browse button. The file upload pop-up will appear where you can select which image to upload. You can only upload files of type gif, jpg, jpeg, jpe and png.
    • Title: the value that is entered into this field is used as the title of the image.
    • Alt Text: the value that is entered into this field is used as the alt text for the image. If the Decorative Only field is enabled, indicating the the image is decorative, no value is required in the Alt Text field.
    • Caption: the value that is entered into this field is used as the caption of the image. This text can be displayed in the Site through the keyword replacement %asset_image_caption%.
    • Show in Menu: this field allows you to select whether or not to show the image in the navigation menu of the site. If it is enabled, the link will appear (a Type 1 asset). If not, the link will not appear (Type 2 asset). For more information, refer to the Linking Screen chapter in the Asset Screens manual.
  • Create Locations
    • Select the locations to create this asset under: this field allows you to select where to create the asset in your Site. You can specify to select an asset location(s) from the Asset Finder and/or choose to specify the currently viewed asset as an asset location.
       
      To select an asset location, click the Select New Location button; the Asset Finder will appear where you can select an asset. To select the current asset as an asset location, click the Select Current Asset button; the current asset will be added to the list of asset locations. If you select more than one asset location, the newly created asset will be linked into each location.
       
      To remove an asset from the list of asset locations, click the remove asset icon. For more information on the Asset Finder, refer to the Asset Finder chapter in this manual.
Create Errors

If you click the Create button when you have not completed all the required fields for the asset or you have uploaded an incorrect file type, errors will be displayed in the Asset Creation Wizard and the asset will not be created. These errors will be appear under the fields that need attention, as shown in the figure below.

You must first address all these errors before you can create the new asset. For example, in the figure above, you must enter a name before you can create the asset.

Closing the Asset Creation Wizard

To close the Asset Creation Wizard, click the Close (x) button in the top right corner of the Asset Creation Wizard, as shown in the figure below.

Closing the Asset Creation Wizard will return you to the screen you were previously viewing.

Creating a New Asset

To create a new asset for your Site:

  1. Open the Asset Creation Wizard by clicking the Create New Asset button in the Easy Edit Suite tool bad.
  2. In the Categories section, select the category for the asset type that you want to create.
  3. In the Wizard section, select the asset type that you want to create.
  4. Fill out the fields for the asset type. All required fields (marked with the The Required icon icon) must be completed.
  5. Click the Create button. The asset will be created in your system.
