Funnelback Search
The Funnelback Package allows you to utilise Funnelback’s search engine technology within Squiz Matrix. Funnelback Search is a customisable search solution for web sites, offering a number of additional features to that of a standard Search Page.

An example Funnelback Search Page
The Funnelback Search package consists of two major components:
- Funnelback Manager: the Funnelback Manager allows you to configure the FunnelbackSearch. This includes indexing and rebuilding cache and the setup and configuration of Collections.
- Funnelback Search Page: the Funnelback Search Page allows for the creation, configuration and formatting of the Funnelback Search Page. This involves the selection of Collections (see below) and the layout of the search and results pages.
The features available on the Funnelback Search Page include:
- The ability to sort search results by rank, date, title and URL.
- The extraction of plain text from document types such as MS Word and PDF files.
- Collections: sets of assets, indexed together and made available for searching on the Funnelback Search Page. For more information on Collections, refer to the Funnelback Manager chapter in this manual.
-
Contextual Navigation: the further refining of search results by type, topic and site. These results are displayed as Clusters, groups of similar search results, automatically generated during the indexing process and displayed on the results page. The categories of Clusters available are:
- Type: refines your search by type. For example, if a user searches for the term Loan, some returned Type Clusters could be Home, Business and Personal.
- Topic: refines your search by topic. For example, if a user searches for the term Election, some returned Topic Clusters could be Policy, Campaign or Results.
- Site: refined your search by Site. For example, if a user searches for the term Squiz, some returned Site Clusters could bewww.matrix.squiz.net or www.squizlabs.com.
- Feature Pages: the ability to control the preference of search results, creating Feature Pages that will appear on the results page of specified search queries.
- Metadata Mapping: allows metadata tags to be grouped in classes and indexed by Funnelback. These classes can then be queried for metadata scoping, refining the search results. Metadata logic can also be applied to either include or exclude the metadata class in the search results.
- Spelling Suggestions: the suggestion of similar terms within Funnelback’s spelling index, allowing for the correction of misspelled search queries.
- Thesaurus: the configuration of synonymous and related terms and queries to use as Replacements in specific searches.
All of these features are outlined in this manual. For examples on the main features of the Funnelback Search, refer to the examples in this manual.
