Configuring the Thesaurus

The Thesaurus allows you to configure a set of related terms and queries for a collection, managed as Replacements and acting as alternate searches, giving you control of the search results of a user.

For example, you could configure the thesaurus so that when a user searches for the term football, the query is replaced to search for the term soccer as well.

Example

We want to configure our Funnelback Search Page so that when a user searches for the term matrix, the search is replaced to include the term squiz labs in the search results.

  1. To do this, go to the Thesaurus screen of the Funnelback Manager. In the Choose a collection field, select the Collection you have configured for you search page and click Commit. A blank Thesaurus will appear in the Edit Thesaurus section, as shown in the figure below.

  2. In the Query Type field, select Whole Query Match and in the Term field, enter matrix. This will mean that the Thesaurus rule will match when the full search query is matrix. In the Replacement field, enter [“squiz labs” matrix]. This will replace the matrix search to include the results of both matrix and squiz labs in the search results, when the Thesaurus rule is matched.

Once you have done this, click Commit.

The Thesaurus rule will now be applied on the Funnelback Search Page, as shown in the figure below.
