Displaying Spelling Suggestions

A Funnelback Search Page can make spelling suggestions on the search results page if a user has misspelled their search query. These suggestions are indexed by Funnelback and based on the content within the Collection being indexed.

Example

We want to provide users with spelling suggestions if they misspell a word in their search query.

  1. To do this, go to the Details screen of the Funnelback Manager. In the Turn Off Speller field, select No – this will allow the Funnelback Indexer to index the spellings of words in order to provide spelling suggestions.

    In the Spelling Threshold field, enter 2. This means that a word must appear twice before its spelling will be indexed for suggestions. While this will mean that fewer words will be indexed, it will raise the quality of the spelling suggestions, making it less likely that incorrect spellings will be suggested.

    The settings for spelling indexing are shown in the figure to the right.

  3. Since we have edited the Indexing Options, we will need to re-index our Collection so that the spelling suggestions are indexed to our specified configuration.

    4. To do this, go to the Funnelback Indexer screen of the Funnelback Manager. Select your Collection in the Root Node field and click Commit. The Collection will be indexed. For more information on the Funnelback Indexer screen, refer to the Funnelback Manager chapter in this manual.

  4. The Spell Suggestion keyword replacement is required to display the spelling suggestions on the Funnelback Search Page. By default, this replacement will appear on the Results Page Layout Bodycopy of the Funnelback Search Page, however, we want spelling suggestions to also appear when no results are found. You can do this on the No Results Page Layout Bodycopy of the Funnelback Search Page. Anew layout has been entered into the WYSIWYG Editor, as shown in the figure below.

The Funnelback Search Page will now provide spelling suggestions if a user has misspelled a word in their search query, as shown in the figure below.
