Setting Up Contextual Navigation
Contextual Navigation can be configured for your Funnelback Search Page, allowing you to provide users with topics, types and site clusters on the search results page, relating to their search query, which can be used to refine their search. This enables users to explore the content of a Site more efficiently and intuitively.
Example
We want to provide Contextual Navigation for users on the Funnelback Search Page, so that topics and types relating to the search query are displayed. We also want to enable Contextual Navigation Expansion so only a set number of these clusters are initially displayed on the search results page.
- To set up Contextual Navigation, go to the Contextual Navigation screen of the Funnelback Manager. In the Choose a collection field, select the Collection you have configured for your search page and click Commit. The settings for Contextual Navigation for this Collection will appear in the Edit Contextual Navigation section.
-
In the Cannot End With field, add the term becomes, as shown in the figure to the right. This means that no clusters ending in this word will be indexed as clusters for the Funnelback Search Page. Similarly, in the Kill List field, enter the word date – this means that no clusters containing this word will be indexed as clusters for the Funnelback Search Page.

For more information on the Contextual Navigation screen, refer to the Funnelback Manager chapter in this manual. - Since we have edited the Contextual Navigation settings, we will need to re-index our Collection so that the new clusters are created. To do this, go to the Funnelback Indexer screen of the Funnelback Manager. Select your Collection in the Root Node field and click Commit. The Collection will be indexed. For more information on the Funnelback Indexer screen, refer to the Funnelback Manager chapter in this manual.
- To configure the settings for Contextual Navigation Expansion, go to the Contextual Navigation Options screen of the Funnelback Search Page. In the Show Contextual Navigation Expansion field, select Yes.
- We only want to display two clusters for each cluster category with a link allowing users to display up to ten more clusters. To do this, in the Minimum <type/topic> clusters displayed field, enter 2 and in the Maximum <type/topic> clusters displayed field, enter 10. You can also choose to configure the show more and show fewer links for each category, if you wish. For more information on the Contextual Navigation Options screen, refer to the Funnelback Search Page chapter in this manual.
- Now that the Contextual Navigation has been configured for the Funnelback Search Page, the appropriate keyword replacements need to be added on the Results Page Layout Bodycopy, as shown in the figure below.
The Fluster Category Type, Fluster Category Topic and Fluster Navigation keyword replacements have been entered into the WYSIWYG Editor.
